I recently tried to pick up a copy of Forza Motorsport 4 at a local Gamestop. They said that the only copies they had left were for reservations/people who pre-ordered the game. This was probably a good week and a half after the game had come out. I had figured that a game of that level of popularity mixed with a decent passage of time would allow me to snag one without a hitch. I guess I was wrong.
Don't misunderstand me, friends. I used to work at an EB Games and totally understand the importance of pre-ordering a game, especially a really popular one, if you expect to have on it on release day. It's just that, frankly, I was surprised in this specific case. Sometimes I get the feeling that employees get a sense of enjoyment out of telling someone, "sorry, you should've pre-ordered!".
